Sartorius Assay Scale

This vintage F. Sartorius Beam Scale was found at the estate of Henry Albin Recen.
His grandfather or father, by the same name, founded the town of Recen, Colorado.
This town is currently a ‘ghost’ town, but in the 1870’s and 1880’s, it was rich in gold and silver and located near Leadville, Colorado, at the top of Fremont Pass.
I believe this scale came from either the town of Recen, or Kokomo, which was a nearby mining community that was destroyed by fire in 1880 – 1881.
When purchased, the scale was in extremely rough condition and looked as though it had been in a fire.
After a complete restoration, the scale is in good working order, as you can see in the above photos.
