IBM Correcting Selectric II Typewriter
This vintage IBM SELECTRIC II typewriter was purchased at an estate sale,
and I just had to have it, as the original blue case made this quite a beauty.
This typewriter was, by far, the most complicated item I have ever attempted to restore.
There are 2,800 parts (yes, you read that right!) in an IBM Selectric, and inumerable adjustments for these to work properly.
All the grease had turned to concrete, the nylon center hub pulley was cracked (thump, thump when running)
and some additional parts were broken and damaged.
After pulling the chassis out of the case, I got to work.
All the old grease was removed with solvent (do this outside!).
The pulley was removed (a very difficult procedure), repaired and reinstalled, and other parts replaced as needed.
The mechanics were lubricated and adjustments made, and the case carefully cleaned and detailed.
After many hours, and days, of bench time, I now have a really wonderful vintage IBM Selectric
that looks superb and functions perfectly!
Hope you enjoys the photos....
